Vintage 338 is a charming new wine bar in Lincoln Park, offering wines from Spain, Italy, and France on its edited wine list. The wines are affordable, all bottles are under $36, and the list showcases several single varietal wines. Did you say 100% Mourvèdre? 100% Negroamaro? Yes, please!
We tried the 100% mourvèdre 2007 Telmo Rodriguez Al Muvedre from Alicante located in the southeastern part of Spain in Valencia. Bright, grassy, and slightly tannic, as expected from the blending grape commonly found in Côtes du Rhône grenache/ syrah/ mourvèdre blends. It would pair well with a hearty dish.
Next up was the 2007 Terravecchia Pampana, a 100% negroamaro wine hailing from Puglia in southeastern Italy. Medium bodied and velvet textured, with a good amount of red and berry fruit. I think the bright acidity would pair well with a tangy tomato based dish.
The food menu focuses on Spanish/ Italian/ French cheese and meat platters as well as hearty European-inspired salads, sandwiches, and spreads.
And I LOVE the decor. Sparkly chandeliers adorn the light blue (or perhaps lavender?) walls, shimmery mosaic tiles accent the bar, and the furnishings are simple with clean modern lines. Everything about Vintage 338 exudes casual elegance.
Best of all there is little risk of going over your budget on what promises to be a fabulous night out!
